Do I have to take my clothes off?
For most types of massage therapy the answer is yes, with Shiatsu and Chair Massage being the exceptions. For full body treatments you should undress as fas as you are comfortable,some clients prefer to keep their underwear on, but it is not necessary. According to Washington State law only the portion of the body being massaged can be uncovered.
How often should I receive treatments?
That depends entirely on why you are seeking treatment. Injury therapy usually requires two times a week for the first few weeks. Massage treatments for stress relief -headaches, back aches,etc, will often need once a week depending on the severity.
How do I choose a therapist?
Choose a massage therapist with the same care as choosing a doctor. Make sure the therapist is qualifitied for the type of therapy you need. The therapist, office staff, waiting room and treatment room should make you feel comfortable.
Will massage hurt?
Some therapies, like deep tissue work, are designed to restructure tissue and muscle adhesions and can cause some discomfort. It is not uncommon to feel a dull ache during the massage and for 24 hours afterward, however if pain lasts longer or is severe tell your therapist!
What is Therapeutic Massage?
Massage therapy can include the use of lotions or oils, hot or cold pack, range of motion stretches and a varietyof treatment strokes.
